Minutes of the Monthly Meeting

March 15, 2016

The March 15, 2016 meeting of the SAHDA took place at the Aldredge House.

President Joanna Hampton called the meeting to order at 7:05.

The February minutes were presented for corrections. The minutes were accepted into record.

Peter Loh gave the Treasurer’s report.

  • Alliance against Crime solicitation letter funds continue to arrive.
  • Transferred some funds from reserves to money market to cover early home tour expenses.

Joanna gave the Home Tour committee report.

  • $20,000 in sponsorships secured to date.
  • This year’s tour will feature:
    • 4912 Swiss Avenue, Michelle and Barry Lovalvo
    • 4937 Swiss Avenue, Lee and Bryan Jones
    • 5611 Swiss Ave, Sandra and Colin Fite
    • 5501 Bryan Street, Risa Weinberger and Mike Carelton
    • 6016 Bryan Parkway, Louise and Tyler Bexley
    • 6200 Bryan Parkway, Varita and Neal Michell
  • Committee is following up with Munger Place Church as a potential stop. 
  • Poster shared with membership for 2016 graphics and artwork.
  • Next committee meeting will be March 20.

Robin Marin gave the Alliance against Crime report.

  • Suspect apprehended in attempted rape in 4100 block of Swiss Avenue.
  • Neighbors discussed making reserve funds available to AAC now rather than waiting for new budget.  Clarification requested on available funds versus reserves in the treasurer’s report.
    • Robin suggested having a meeting in April or May to discuss the priorities from the survey results. Additional funding and lighting will also be discussed.

Jerry Baus reported for the Beautification committee.

  • Work on Savage Park is near completion.

Lighting and landscaping will be done in March.

  • The five stolen bronze plaques at the Fitzhugh Gates were valued at $12,000.
    • Linda Solomon may have photos of the originals.
    • Neighbors suggested alternative materials to be used for the replacements.
    • Security cameras were suggested to be reviewed as part of the upcoming AAC committee in coordination with Beautification committee.
    • Lighting and alley clean-up would help solve some of the problem.
      • TXU may have an alley lighting program.

Joanna announced that the invitations were available for the children’s Easter party. It will be hosted this year by Elizabeth Odstrcil and Brian Shultz at 5007 Swiss Avenue.

Natalie Kinvig invited us to the next neighborhood social.  We will gather at Stoney’s on April 1.

Tom Bonifield reported for the Planning and Zoning committee.

  • Tom asked us to approve Max Schultz as the new member to represent La Vista.
  • Robin Marin made the motion and Linda Solomon second. There was discussion regarding whether there could be more than one representative for a block. The committee will review the committee charter. There were none opposed. Mr. Shultz is approved as a new member of the Planning and Zoning committee.
  • Tom moved that the Planning and Zoning Committee request a delay of the Board of Adjustment hearing on the filing to allow height of 36 ft. at eh rear set back of the new construction at 5608 Live Oak, in order to review the original plans submitted for the permits for 5608 Live Oak and BOA filing and to meet with the owner’s representative if needed to understand the claims fully. The motion was seconded by Cameron Kinvig.  Discussion followed. The motion carried.
  • Robin Marin asked about the large number of cars parking on Collette. The P & Z committee is working on it.
  • The sale of the car wash on La Vista fell though.
  • Stacey Rose asked for an update on the skybridge at Baylor.

Unfinished business.

  • The special meeting regarding the PD filing has been postponed. It is anticipated be sometime in April or May. A notice was sent to the board and request was made to send to District membership for information.

New Business.

  • Larry Waisanen has updated the SAHD Directory & distributed to District.  All residents are requested to check information for accuracy.  Final version will be posted to residents only section of website.
