Minutes of Monthly Meeting

November 20, 2012

The November meeting of the SAHDA was held at the Aldredge house on November 20, 2012.  President Brenden Martin called the meeting to order at 7:10 p.m.  He began by establishing an acceptable quorum for the meeting.

Thanks were expressed to Matt’s Restaurant and the Social Committee for provision of food for tonight’s social hour preceding the meeting.  All are encouraged to support Matt’s at its new location.

The minutes from the October meeting were presented.  A motion was made, seconded, and minutes were approved.

Craig Scheef presented the Treasurer’s Report.  Revenues are up from this time last year.  The current bank balance is approximately $174,000, with approximately $44,000 remaining when the budget and designated funds are backed out of the balance.  A motion was made, seconded, and Treasurer’s Report was approved.

Committee Reports included the following:

·      Alliance Against Crime-More volunteers are needed to serve on this committee, or things will remain “status quo” for the coming year.  A sign-up sheet is available. Brenden emphasized that this committee has the potential to make the most input on our neighborhood, including increasing home values, since potential buyers are impressed by safe neighborhoods. Craig Scheef has requested that officers give hours they work along with pay request.  The purpose is to help establish when more patrol is needed.

There was no officer present to give an updated crime watch report, but it was noted that a truck was stolen from the Arch McColl residence at 5405 Swiss Ave. this past week.

·      Social Committee-This committee also needs help and a sign-up sheet is available.

(Brenden emphasized that all committees are to submit charters explaining the purposes/authorities of each of their respective committees.  These will then be posted for view on the website.)

·      Children’s Committee-Gaye Jackson reported that the Halloween party was a great success with 150+ people in attendance.  A holiday party will be held on December 15, 4-6 p.m., and adults are encouraged/welcome to attend with their children.

·      Home Tour Committee-Elizabeth Mast reported  that their committee has already met and things are coming together and new plans being developed for the 40th annual Home Tour.

·      Median/Beautificaion Committee-Marilyn Waisenan presented an update from this committee’s meeting held on November 19.  A Beautification Agreement letter was approved by the committee to be sent to the Dallas Park and Recreation Department, stating specific projects that we would like the

DPR to tackle and what the SAHDA would agree to provide.   Jerry Baus requested that all members look at Savage Park and make suggestions of what should be done to refurbish this area.  Ryan Browning has assessed all equipment regarding lighting in the SAHDA and is working to establish contact with the City and Oncor concerning needed repairs.  A reminder was sent to all members of the SAHDA reminding them NOT to violate City Code by blowing leaves/debris into the Storm Drains.

·      Planning and Zoning-Tom Bonifield presented an update on new development potential on Live Oak between Fitzhugh and Collette.  This committee will be meeting with the developers to explain and to help them understand the process of working with the SAHDA and surrounding historic districts to achieve quality results for the neighborhoods.  Larry Offut offered to host any meetings at his home.

·      Website Committee-Gaye Martin and Bob Cox are working on an updated structure and design for the Website.  A report should be presented in the near future.

A few Area Directors and Alternates were still needed in blocks where no one volunteered from those respective blocks. The following were appointed and approved to fill the positions:

o   6300 Bryan Parkway-Michelle Manners

o   La Vista-Bob Bracken

o   5200-5300 Swiss Ave-Cameron Kinvig & Anja Woodson

o   5921-6102 Swiss Ave-Christy Scheef

Brenden presented the proposed Amendments to the Bylaws.  A motion was made, seconded, and the vote was 100% for approval of these Amendments.

A drawing was held and two SAHDA members went home with lovely floral arrangements.

New Business:

·      It was suggested that we invite the last block of Bryan Parkway to join the SAHDA.  Joanna Hampton volunteered to find out how the process should be initiated, and will report back the Board.

·      November 30 will be “Light Up Lakewood” and all are invited and encouraged to attend the festivities.

·      A holiday party will be held in the home of Brenden Martin and Allan Moore, in lieu of the December Business Meeting.  Please remember to RSVP.

Meeting Adjourned at 7:55 p.m.
