Minutes of Monthly Meeting

February 19, 2013

The February meeting of the SAHDA was held at the Aldredge House on February 19, 2013.

Vice-President Gaye Jackson called the meeting to order at 7:00 p.m.

VP Jackson asked all present to introduce themselves since we had several new neighbors in attendance.  She then introduced tonight’s guest speaker, Neva Dean, who is the Planning Manager for the Department of Sustainable Development and Construction.

Neva explained the process for obtaining a CA (Certificate of Appropriateness) as well as a Certificate of Eligibility.  Routine maintenance items are usually approved within 24 hours, but other requests are required to go before the Landmark Commission, which meets once a month.  She referred members to the 73 page ordinance, which is available online, and she answered various questions from SAHDA residents.

The Minutes from the January meeting were presented and a motion was made, seconded, and they were approved.

Craig Scheef presented the Treasurer’s Report.  He noted that there has been an increase in hours of our Alliance Against Crime Patrol to about 35 hours per week.  More patrols are being done in the alleys, and especially those alleys associated with Gaston/Swiss, and Live Oak have been increased. At this time there is approximately $53,000 in surplus funds.  A motion was made and seconded and the Treasurer’s Report was approved.

No one from the Children’s Committee was present to report on the Easter Party, but information will follow.

Home Tour Co-Chair Elizabeth Mast reported that all is on schedule for the 40th Annual Mother’s Day Home Tour.  All homes on tour now have sponsors, and Penne Pomodoro will be doing the food again this year.  All chairpersons are in place, but many volunteers will be needed to help with the Tour.

There was nothing new to be reported by the Beautification Committee.

Pauline Mayfield, with the Outreach Committee, reported that they are waiting on approval of their Mission Statement to be approved by the SAHDA Board before suggestions will be presented for spending the Outreach Funds.

Tom Bonifield and Joanna Hampton with Planning and Zoning explained that things are beginning to develop more rapidly now with the big project on Live Oak.  Next week, the developer’s “rezoning request” will be going to the City.  With that in mind, next month’s agenda will hopefully include substantial time to discuss the new developments.

Bob Cox reported that our new website should be up and running around the middle of March.

Door prizes were awarded.

Meeting adjourned at 7:55 p.m.
