Occasional (July 2013)

July 2013

I hope everyone is enjoying their summer!

As this is my last letter as President of the Swiss Avenue Historic District, I wanted to take this opportunity to thank everyone who has contributed to the vast accomplishments over the past year. It has been a great honor to serve as a leader in the district this year! I have enjoyed my time as President and can’t articulate how lucky I am to have served with such a great board. This position has not only given me the opportunity to serve the community but has also given me the opportunity to meet many of our great neighbors in the district and the community. I want to personally thank Gaye Jackson, Vice President; Craig Scheef, Treasurer; and Jody Bowers,
Secretary for stepping up this year to serve on th executive committee and act as mentors to myself and the rest of our board. The amount of time and dedication they have put forth over the last year has been invaluable! I would also like to thank the committee chairs who did such a great job developing committee charters and fulfilling
the goals and objectives identified for the year:

Elizabeth Mast and Kelly Gordon – Home Tour Committee
Bob Cox – Website Committee
Pauline Mayfield – Outreach Committee
Jerry Baus – Beautification Committee
Sherry Ezell – Children’s Committee
Cameron Kinvig- Social Committee
Tom Bonifield/Joanna Hampton – Planning and Zoning Committee
Craig Scheef – Alliance Against Crime Committee

For all of the residents in the district, I want to say thank you for: opening your homes for the annual home tour, participating in neighborhood socials, and participating in committees to improve our community. For those of you who haven’t been involved, I hope that each of you will take the time to become involved with a committee or attend a district meeting. I also hope that as you sit on your front porch with a cold beverage, or exercise in the neighborhood, that you take the time to thank those that have served our district over the last year and recognize the accomplishments made throughout our community!

In my initial letter as President I talked about the meaning of community, and as Gaye Jackson once wrote: “We are a team that can facilitate so many positive changes, whether it is preservation of historic homes, making sure that crime is down in an entire section of our city, or just looking after each other the way they did in the old days.” I believe we are all so fortunate to live in such a wonderful and involved community, and I am very fortunate to have had the opportunity to serve with a team that is so dedicated to not only preserving our homes but our community!

Although I am not able to serve a second term as President, I fully intend to remain involved with our community in the years to come. It has been a very rewarding year and a great learning experience!
