Minutes of Monthly Meeting

January 20, 2015

The January 20, 2015meeting of the SAHDA took place at the Aldredge House.  President  Joanna Hampton called the meeting to order at 7:03 p.m.

Joanna thanked The Wine Therapist for providing the wine.

     The minutes of the September and November meetings  were presented for approval. A motion was made, seconded, and the minutes were approved to be recorded.

     Peter  Loh presented the Treasurer’s report.  It was pointed out that Alliance Against Crime funds arrive in Spring.  It was suggested that a letter be sent out reminding the district that contributions are needed.  The Alliance Against Crime board position is open.

     Larry Waisanen gave the Home Tour committee report.  Gaye Jackson will not able to act in the event planner role this year. She has taken a position in Houston. Larry and Robin welcome ideas for a replacement.  They also need a fundraising Chair.

     Marilyn Waisanen  shared the beautification committee’s planned negotiation with the Parks department. The beds at Munger and Swiss will be cleaned. New beds are planned for Savage Park. The city wants us to pay for watering for two years.

     Lancaster Parker announced that the Outreach committee has recommended six requests for assistance. 

1.Lipscomb Elementary  has requested $5,000 for their International Baccalaureate program, which will cost $10,000 - $20,000, and a $1,000sponsorship for their carnival.

a.The committee recommends $3,500 for IB teacher training and $1,000 for carnival sponsorship.

2. Woodrow Wilson High School has requested $4,000 toward their Library makeover. They want to refresh the historic memorabilia and seating.

a.The committee recommends $3,500.

3.J. Long Middle School requests $4,000 to refinish the Terrazzo tile floors in their main building.

a.The committee recommends $3,500.

4.Lakewood Library requests $2,500 for materials.

a.The committee recommends $2,200.

5.St. Mathews Cathedral requests $1,500 for their Open Heart young adult studio for supplies.

a.The committee recommends $1,250.

6.Santa Fe Trail has requested $1,500 toward the planting of 44 trees.

a.The committee recommends $1,250.

7.The committee is anticipating a request from Old Dallas early PTA and recommends $300.

 A motion was made to approve the committee’s request and passed.

     Joanna gave the Planning and Zoning committee report.  4901 Live Oak requested deed restricting was denied, but it was a tight vote. The owner is not appealing.  The owners of the Lakewood Theatre are meeting with the neighborhood district. Preservation Dallas is involved. Owner doesn’t know what the use will be. The committee is optimistic about working with the owner.  The board approved adding our voice.

     The social committee is planning a get together the first or second Friday in February.

     Bob Cox announced that the producers of Real Houses of Atlanta are looking for home owners in our district with homes over 3,000 square feet. We will post the information on the website for interested home owners.

     Sergeant Foreman reported two burglaries. One was in the garage of a Bryan Pkwy garage that is being renovated.  Anja Woodson had reported a burglary of a garage and back porch on Swiss Avenue.

Jeff Bryan asked about the board’s interest in installing flashing lights and cross walks to make passenger crossing safer at Munger and Swiss Ave. The board is interested in learning more about this.

The meeting was adjourned at 7:59.
